Initiativ has been named the winner of the Innovation in Energy Market Infrastructure award at the Chartis Energy50 2026. We were also ranked 28th in the Energy50, which recognises leading technology providers across the energy and commodities markets.

The Energy50 is Chartis Research’s annual ranking of 50 of the world’s leading energy risk technology providers. The rankings draw on Chartis’ independent research and a comprehensive RFI process.

Our inclusion in the list, alongside many of the industry big hitters, is a testament to the strength of our offering despite the fact we are not even live yet and reflects our mission to be a challenger to many of the industry incumbents.

The Initiativ approach

The award recognises our approach to building InEx by Initiativ, our next-generation commodity exchange designed to make trading more accessible, efficient and transparent. Built on modern digital infrastructure, InEx aims to reduce long-standing friction across market access, matching, settlement and interoperability.

InEx uses modular services, standardised interfaces and digital settlement rails to make it easier for participants to connect to markets and use their capital more efficiently. Starting with EU carbon, it is designed to expand into a broader range of commodity markets over time.

Chartis highlighted Initiativ’s Infrastructure-as-a-Service approach and its potential to lower barriers to participation, improve connectivity between market operators and third-party services, and reduce friction across matching, settlement and interoperability.

Energy and commodities markets are becoming more complex, with a wider range of participants, products and market structures to support. This puts greater pressure on the infrastructure behind trading to be flexible, connected and able to evolve. Our approach with InEx is to build that flexibility in from the start, rather than adding new layers to legacy infrastructure.

Sid Dash, Chief Researcher at Chartis Research, said: “Initiativ Exchange (InEx) provides Infrastructure-as-a-Service capabilities, focusing on innovative approaches to organising exchanges and trading. Although the market faces numerous challenges during this period of transition, the company’s strong ranking in the Energy50 2026 and category award for Innovation in Energy Market Infrastructure are indications of its leadership in overcoming some of the structural obstacles in the market.”

Isaure Courcenet, Co-Founder and CEO of Initiativ, said: “Commodity markets are evolving, but much of the infrastructure behind them has struggled to keep pace. We founded Initiativ because we believe there is a better way to build and operate exchanges, with simpler access, more efficient settlement and infrastructure designed for the way markets are evolving. Recognition from Chartis is a strong endorsement of that vision and of what we are building with InEx.”

The recognition from Chartis is another vote of confidence in our ambition to build a new exchange experience for commodities markets as we move towards launch.
